Exactly lots of bodyshops wouldn't want to do that, or would bodge it & apply a thick coating of underseal over the top.

Quite! I notice the OP is keeping his bodyshop's identity under his hat!Mr Teddy Bear wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 2:24 pm Exactly lots of bodyshops wouldn't want to do that, or would bodge it & apply a thick coating of underseal over the top.
It's the trepidation of the possible bodge that's keeping me from getting mine done.

If they quote cheap, it's probably a bodge. although the welding part doesn't take that long. the getting the metal ready prior takes ages.crepello wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 2:27 pmQuite! This video should explain it nicely

Very droll Craig I like that!
Fortunately our cars [mostly] are no longer depreciating.

And you have a 220 turbo which is probably the one in most demand

I’m using a classic car fabricator called TJ Hobbs based in Nottingham, he was recommended to me by the Rover 75 OC as they too have used him for similar work.
He is a one man band and 4 weeks with my car now, so availability will no doubt be a long wait but worth every moment given the quality of work carried out.
Unfortunately not many body shops want to do the full package, they don’t want the liability of rust reappearing later down the line and customers coming back angry. Even if customers are prepared to take all risk, body shops want an easy life.
From my experience (getting two other tomcats painted in the last 2-3 years), it is best to separate the works:
- Someone to do the fabrication/rust treatment.
- Someone to do the body prep & paint.
I should be getting the car back later this week, I’m looking forward to seeing it in person post surgery.

Update:
So that's the fabrication finished on the Coupe, look at them sills and arches!
Im not sure if I made it clear, but the respray isn't happening just yet, this was simply an opportunity to get the rust sorted on the car. The bodywork and respray will be done at a later date.
Here are some 'finished' pictured:
Car is being collected this week, can't wait to see it in person.
Thanks for looking

So I collected the car from the fabricator last week and Im really happy with the work carried out.
I must admit, my wallet took a beating but then again we both didn't realise how bad the rust actually was until the various layers of rust started to be cut out and I didn't want any corners skipped on the repair given the stress this car will be put under.
Unfortunately the house extension isn't quite finished yet, we are at the end with all the major work but the snagging list seems to be taking the longest amount of time, so for now the car is back in dry storage with a cover over it patiently waiting for the builders to move out after almost 6 months

Small update,
The car is finally back at home, shame it’s taken this long to get the house sorted but that’s construction projects for you.
It’s been nearly 10 months since the car was temporarily moved away so now it’s back, I need to figure out my ‘to do list’ and continue where I left off.
Here’s a few pictures from today showing the recent bodywork, Roversport brakes fitted and race seat.
Looking forward to getting this finished over the winter months, painted and out on track in 2023.

Glad your building project is finished and you can get back to the coupe project.
It’ll probably feel like a bit of R&R working on the car after the stress of the building work.
Looking forward to further updates in the Autumn
