It's pretty straight forward to move a forum to a different format (and still keep all the posts / data), the forum runs an old version of phpbb and phpbb is not the best for seo.

If the clubs funds allow the best (in my opinion) is vbulletin (the same software many large forums run, including mg-rover.org)
