It's in Brigg so N Lincolnshire, needs work short MOT, I would say offer a lot less if he's a trader it needs to be in a road worthy condition, so I would only turn up in a car with a mate, prepared to walk away if it's rotten!

Looks like a bit of a shed to be honest. Will need quite a bit of time and money sinking into it, but if you’re happy to do it then go for it. It’s very much a project.

I went to have a look at this about three months ago, think it was £895. The engine seemed ok and the interior a little better than that. The bodywork however.......hmmm.

You can see the poorly filled dent on the boot lid and bits of rust. I think the paint on the front (wings & bonnet) appears to be a different white. Bits of trim were loose or missing and generally it was scruffy.

To be frank, my vehicular knowledge is slim. I particularly want an estate and I would love an R8 so consider that when I say I didn't buy it but bought an BMW 525 estate instead.

By the way, I live about eight miles from this car so will happily go and have a look if there's anything specific you'd like to know. Would even video call whilst am there if it helps. I'll even pick someone up from train station if that helps ha ha.

Appreciate the offer but sounds like its beyond me and my budget to fix it. Im also after an estate as im being made redundant and going to start handyman work for myself.

So as an alternative I have found a Jag X type estate 2ltr diesel that looks in need of nothing for only £995. I think the ULEZ zone and CC charge is killing all these old cars and I live just outside it currently. Until the silly Mayor of London moves all the borders again. Also if fuel goes short again (was bad down here) I will have a choice of fuels.
Yes I know its a Mondeo before anyone starts, but the Mondeo was quite a good car at the time I understand.

Anyone owned one of these, as so far I have heard only good things?

We have had one for 10 years 2.2 diesel no cambelt chain drive and all the toys , it now as 200 k on it and has been very reliable the only thing I would watch for is the outer sills covered by plastic trim on some cars they rot badly from the inside otherwise good car 👍

We owned an X-Type a few years ago and loved it. Admittedly it was a 3-litre automatic with four wheel drive which is quite far removed from a fwd diesel :wink3

Great cars, only spoiled by rusty sills by the time they reach 10 years old (Ford build quality inherited from the Ka, I guess. Yet the contemporary Mondeo never had a reputation for going rusty)

Yes I replace ours 6 years ago the issue is a 3 part sill, inner outer and a unbelievable middle section why why why the biggest rust trap I've seen in modern times water just gets trapped the good news was they are easy to do especially with the plastic cover that fits over afterwards so no need to grind and blend in and mot guys can see the continuous weld if you do it right so they happy also .

Thanks for all the feedback. I havent been to see the Jag yet, but it looks good in the pics and I think the dealer is giving honest info. How do I check if the sills need changing if they look good from outside?

This ULEZ expansion is killing cars down my way. Im just outside it currently so I recon this is why the car is cheap.

Let’s get back to the Tourer.
It is advertised as a 216 Tourer but am I correct in thinking it’s a 400 Tourer?
From what has been said, it looks like a bodywork project to me so could be expensive to bring up to scratch.
As such I would go to £500 but not much more.
Any thoughts?

It is a 416 Tourer with the K series 1.6 engine. The bodywork looks rough. I am sure there are better examples around.
