Leaking sunroof......but no sunroof

#1 Post by redandwhitE » Sun May 02, 2021 1:47 pm

It's the last incarnation of the 45 hatch and when it rains, water comes in through the interior light above the rear view mirror. Clearly I would investigate the sunroof....but there isn't one.

Where would the water be getting in high enough to find its way to the centre of the car and then out through the interior light?

Aerial base would be my bet.

Most interior leaks that people suspect are the sunroof are actually a de-bonded windscreen (or rear screen).

However, water normally falls under gravity rather than travel horizontally, so it could only be de-bonding if the car is parked facing up or down a hill. And if it is, you may have an answer as the car would have to be facing up a hill for a de-bonded windscreen to have a chance of letting water in across the headlining to the interior light. And you'd have to be parked facing down the hill for the rear screen to be faulty, although it could also be a failed rubber hatch seal as the seal and the headlining meet at the back edge of the body.

The gutter rails would leak only if your roof has corroded through underneath them (unlikely?).

If it's not a de-bonded screen or failed hatch seal, suspect the aerial as mentioned.

Cheers gents. I had already checked the aerial but think I'll just take it off and start afresh to eliminate that.

Windscreen looks fine.

Everyone's windscreen looks fine. That's why everyone with a water leak thinks it must be the sunroof.
