Curious if anyone can comment on how much of a difference the struts make if they've failed.
I've got a feeling the struts in mine are shot as the roof is bloody difficult to move up and down despite all the joints feeling nice and free.

New struts may make the difference as in tailgate struts they wear over time there are two on ebay at the moment if you type in parts number but I would ask motoclan first to if they have any .
If you take off the struts you may be able to access if they have failed I know I have one second one thats good but new is the way .

I got hold of X-Part/Motaclan last week but unfortunately they haven't got any.
I've spotted the lone one on eBay which I will probably go for, the other (unfortunately) are from that place in Turkey. I've encountered a lot of issues with actually getting parts here from there, no fault of theirs!
I have established that they're dead though, I pulled out the rear panels to have a look and they're damp with fluid. It makes sense the hood is so difficult to operate!
I've spotted the lone one on eBay which I will probably go for, the other (unfortunately) are from that place in Turkey. I've encountered a lot of issues with actually getting parts here from there, no fault of theirs!

Gas struts of all sizes are used on a lot of industrial equipment, so it may be possible to buy suitable replacements.
We bought a couple of generic struts for the bootlid of my wife's Rover 114 (Metro) cabriolet a couple of years ago: I will try to find the supplier details and post them here.
