Probably s stupid question but does anyone know if MG TF door locks have anything in common with 200/25/400/45’s, specifically the key barrel?
Sense would tell me that if you are a car company designing lock barrels you design one common part then fit it to all cars not design a different lock barrel for each car and hopefully they didn’t and there is some commonality of parts.
But the reason for my question is the driver door lock on my 03 TF, as in the bit you push the key in was seized and I couldn’t get the key in. Tried WD40 etc but no use so I took the barrel out (fiddly job) with the idea of cleaning it all up, so far so good.
With the barrel out I decided to take the shiny stainless cap off the end of the lock you insert the key in (bad idea
Now I’ve found (after hours of looking) the door and plate but not spring.
So after my fun day messing around with the lock I’ve now got a clean working lock that can go back on the car but the little door that springs into place to keep dirt and water out doesn’t spring any more.
I know I can leave the door off and pop the lock back in and I’m sure it’ll be fine as I only use the key when the car is SORN over the winter and the battery is off the car as the central locking works perfectly.
So the question is does anyone have a spring (million to one no) does anyone know what shape it is (maybe I can make one) or does anyone have a duff old lock/lock barrel that’s no good they don’t need/want I can strip for the bit.
