Door Membrane Adhesive

Post by Plodder »

I am trying to replace the plastic membrane on the rear door of my 91 416 after replacing the electric window mechanism.
Having accidentally thrown the original membrane away, whilst trying to keep the garage tidy :laughing , I have made a few prototypes and am now in a position to purchase some slightly thicker plastic to make the final one.

I have read elsewhere on the forum about using Butyl tape to bond the sheet to the door and a hot air gun to soften the existing rock hard factory applied adhesive.
Has this worked well for anyone and do you use the lowest setting to soften the existing adhesive ? Just looking not to damage the paint or any of the wiring in the door. Don't need any backwards steps at the moment :)

Many thanks in anticipation
