I've managed to get the alternator fitted but I've not fitted the new belt yet as I don't want to mess it up with it being a manual tensioner that and after the hell of a lot of problems I had with Torx bolts seizing and having to be cut off on the inside of the car I'm not confident at all having a go and ending up having to call recovery out to come get me again.

Ok thanks for the replies. I've tried a couple of things this morning.

First I've tried to get the spanner from the bottom onto the nut and was faced with this

Now this picture gives you the idea that there is room which there isn't at all. I've tried a normal open ended and ring spanner and also a deep reach spanner on the small pulley to no result as they can't get into the small hole. I've even dropped the engine down on that side to see if that would help gain access but again the bodywork stops me.

Now I'm not new to messing about with cars but I'm also no expert but it is stumping me.

Nit only that the car itself has apparently got a couple of different belts that could have been used. The one I got from euro car parts was the 1145 one which i tried the other day with no luck so I rang rimmers for advice they told me it should be the 1150 for my car/engine so I popped into Andrew pages and picked one up locally and even though it is close it's still no cigar and no fit.

I know you are all saying it should be easy but trust me it isn't and I would love to get it done sooner rather than later.

Alternator and belt fitted with the help of a local lad who has a 25.

Didn't think about it but he suggested removing the front cross member bolts on the drivers side and put a jack/wooden block to support it and also do the same under the sump and then lower them both down to be able to gain access to the adjustment pulley retaining bolt.

The car is now officially back on the road and will be getting a wash and polish sometime this week in preparation for the 7th August.

Am really happy :D
