Its the wrong font and hence illegal. The police hate them as they can't be read by their ANPR so they tend to target cars wearing these sort of plates.

As far as I can see the only thing wrong with the plates is the rover badge at the side the fonts are correct size and spaced properly, and the police will not stop you for having a rover badge at the side BUT it might fail the MOT, The font and spacing on Dave's car is LEGAL

Technically that plate is illegal for two reasons. The first is the Rover badge and red frame around the place
The second is the non standard font

However as the plate is clearly legible I think you'd be unlucky to be stopped for it so I'd not worry too much.

I thought the only legal fonts were the standard and 3D :S

I had some made up for my Nissan Primera 2L SRi and was stopped twice.
Of course the kind police man told me that having pictures of lesbians on my number plate wasnt very pleasent and i should remove them within 7 days or ill be fined. He gave me a producer and wrote on the slip for the officer who i show my docs to to check my plates for lesbians :laughing

Ive still got them:...

Nothing wrong with borders as far as I know, and didn't think it was illegal to have logos (or lesbians!) on the plates.
I was originally commenting earlier in the thread about the fonts!

I think the definitive answer is here:
http://www.plates4less.co.uk/number-pla ... lities.asp

The DVLA website also had a PDF doc on the subject:

I've looked at the links and am more confused then ever, It sort of depends on the age of the car and wether or not P.C plod has a bad day or not. The best thing is Leave them on until told to do otherwise, as long as they have'nt been changed. :laughing2

Are you sure? That's the first I've heard of issuing of points.
The MOT tester will fail it and therefore legally it is deemed not roadworthy with them fitted - which becomes a sticking point with your insurer in the event of a claim.

Just seen Dave's plates in the flesh so to speak and I do apologize the fonts are'nt standard, but the police would be nit picking to do Dave. :blushing
