Have you got a compression tester? Good place to start as it’ll tell you a lot!
I wonder if the hydraulic tappets have maybe drained of oil and have stuck open.

The Rotor arm may look OK, but there is a resistor inside it that can fail.
If you have a spark at the plug the Rotor is fine, if there's no spark start by changing it.
Having fallen foul of a Rotor arm failure (& walking 2 miles home) It's a good idea to carry a new arm, Phillips screwy & an 8mm spanner in your boot.

When mine did the same it was an ECU fault.
