Probably not a lot more than you already know yourself as the owner. The letters in the VIN decode the bodystyle, model, engine, and transmission/drive arrangement as it left the factory. If you want to PM me your VIN I can try and decode it for you but it will only likely confirm what you probably already know.

The VIN decoding is more important for analysing the bulk dataset I have from the DVLA because many of the cars were registered with an incorrect/incomplete model declaration on the V5 and that is the data how many left uses to determine their counts. By decoding all the VINs I've been provided en-mass I can get a much clearer picture of how many of each model is left regardless of how innacurately the model was declared for many of the cars.

Bit more of a breakdown showing the data based on current tax status. The numbers of taxed cars aren't so rosy...

Of those SORN cars 217 still have a valid MOT, so it think its safe to assume they are still running examples. If you look at the SORN cars that have MOTs expired in the past twelve months that number grows to 553.

As a matter of interest do you have a data set that cross references VIN's to key numbers by any chance?

The reason that I ask is because the local MG/Rover independent dealer in Wickwar has a key making machine that uses blanks with a hinged handle [so OEM], but you need the four figure key number to use it.

To save anyone else doing the sums, there are a total 1343 R8s OTR in the UK according to this data.

Knowing that there will be others abroad, that means a survival rate of c.0.2%....

But quite a few of those on SORN will be back on the road during the Summer. I have two of them!

Indeed-taking the snapshot in winter versus summer would paint a reasonably different picture, I think.

I am looking forward to seeing the statistics in more detail.

And 261 untaxed! that seems a bite back to front compared to the other platforms.

I am too, but it's taking quite a while to sanitise the data so I can actually do anything more useful with it beyond the counts I've already done. The amount of cars with clearly mistyped VIN and engine numbers is incredible. Simple things like mixing letters and numbers, such as Z<=>2, 5<=>S, 1<=>I, O<=>0, all makes determining models accurately from the data that little bit harder. I'm getting there slowly, but I can only spend the odd hour on it here and there at the moment. I'm having to iteratively refine my data parsing script load the raw data into the database making the corrections as I find them.

Its possible I typed those numbers in back to front, I'll try and run the database query again this evening to double check.

While you're double-checking, it would be nice to correct '3rd' to '3dr'!
