Is there a way I can slow down the corrosion on my arches?
I`m ok with my mechanicals, but body work.............No.
I`ve got about six minor bubbles in total, spread around all 4 arches. Come late next autumn I can get it in for repair and spray, but really need to hold off the rust until then.

Any ideas?
I thought about painting a little underseal on the inside of the arches, injecting a drop of kurust into the bubble, and a good coat of wax polish on the outside.
It can`t do any harm, but will it work? That is the question.

it depends on where the rust is coming from. On the arches it is usually rusting from the inside. You can try hot waxoyl or even engine oil and trickle some down the arch from inside the car (this is where two sheets meet and the water gets inbetween them and rusts). You'll need to remove the boot liner and you'll see the corrosion protection in this area is already pretty good but its worth a try.

Is rust a `living` thing. In other words, will the waxoil stop its progress, or can it still `grow`under the protection?

Rust needs air to grow, without that then it can't grow. Water also accelerates the rate it can grow a lot. Exclude these things then the rust will stop.

You'd have to make sure ALL of the rust was gone before treating it to some form of protection.

My GTi was waxoil'ed by the first owner some 10 years ago and theres absolutely no rust what so ever anywhere on the car. I recommend anyone who wants to keep their car for a while has it done. Not sure how much it would cost but i suggest having a specialist do it, after all theres no point doing it at all if its going to be half done job thats going to let rust through anyway.
