Front door lock problem - 1991 Rover 200

Hi everyone,
A problem has happened with the front drivers door lock and wondered if anyone could help please.
The driver’s door interior lock which goes up and down isn’t moving and also the drivers door exterior lock also no longer locks with the key from the outside.
I’ve taken the door card off and the rod which goes into the actual latch (in the middle of the door) looks like it’s come partly out of it’s housing but is still connected. Looks like the rod goes into a small nylon/plastic moveable part which in turn goes into the latch.
Has this happened to anyone else and is it easy to resolve or is a new latch needed?
Thank you,
Matt

That type of rod attachment at the back end of the lock barrel is prone to coming out. Having rebuilt my own doors, I suffered the bottom rod popping out of exactly the same location so the door opened but the alarm continually sounded. A reattachment which I think is just to poke the rod end back through was all that was necessary.
There's no fixing for the rod if I remember correctly. And there are several holes in that plastic part on the back of the barrel. The idea is you find the one that works consistently, or whichever one seems to move the rods by the amount you want without anything being strained and without there being the situation where the barrel turns and the rod moves but can't move enough so it pops out again.

Thanks Johnny. I'll have another look at this at the weekend. The rod is still attached but not as fully as I think it should be but with gentle pushing it didn't seem to want to push any further into the latch in the middle of the door.

If that's the part I'm visualising, the plastic bush has an arm with a claw which clips onto the long
arm of the rod, and restrains the short part from working its way out of the hole in the bush. No
doubt these plastic parts are all becoming brittle with age, and liable to lose the claw jaws. I recall
these aren't handed, so one side of the car is a darned side easier to fiddle with than the other!

If you have not resolved the problem I'll gladly have a look at it for you as I'm only "up the road" from you.
Regards to all,
Stan.
