Has anyone worked out how to fit a cup holder in an R8 without damaging any trim and it not getting in the way of driver or passenger? I’ve concocted a solution which is untested as yet using a spare dash mat. Need to trial this under an emergency stop. I’m not happy with it. Any suggestions from anyone? May have to do some long journeys so I’d like to be able to pick up a McTea on route

I just put mine in the arm rest no mods needed

Yeah I’ve been doing that but then you can’t rest your elbow and I knock it changing gear. First world problems eh?! It’s not a big car so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised it’s hard to find an alternative spot for one

That's a neat prototype. Not sure about the location though - it appears to have steamed up your windscreen

Yeah ok, I know it's on the outside. Not an ideal place for a hot drink, if it came adrift it could do a bit of damage to yourself or a passenger, and it probably would cause a little condensation on the screen.

Probably a daft idea but how about inside the glove box lid? Should be enough of an area to build a substantial enough holder and neatly out of sight when you don't need it.

I’d not thought about the steam from the drink - brilliant point. The more I think about it the worse my idea seems. I’ll have a look at the glovebox but I’m not sure it opens flat so might need some adaptation.

Thought about using one of these holders on the door card behind the speaker so the base of the cup holder folded down to be resting on the door bin so the weight of the drink would tear it off the door but it was a bit close to my right leg. Would need to lash up cruise control for that to work! Which incidentally would be lovely if it was possible. As would Air con!

To be honest, I would rather just stop and relax and allow another ten minutes for the journey.

For medical reasons, I’m supposed to drink plenty of water at regular intervals, so if I’m on my own, I put the open water bottle in a narrow side pocket of a weighted bag.

When it’s SAFE to do so, I take a quick swig, without having to take my eyes off the road.

A definite "No" to that idea! Location is in line of vision and I dread to think what would happen under any sharp braking, there's good reason cup holders are much further down! If you can't put it down between the seats/centre console area then consider getting a door bin off another type of car that has a holder in it and putting it in there.

I would run with the glovebox lid idea but not try to store the cup inside the glovebox. Make up an attachment that will fix to the glovebox lid and hang your cup down in front of the glovebox. I am sure you can find somebody breaking an R8 that can supply you with a spare lid to experiment with

If your modifying why not take a air vent out in the middle and attach to that then your passenger will not have hot coffee shinny shoes I sure I could fine you a spare vent or glove box and I do have a rear door card insert for you if you still need one

That's true.

Then again, if you've got a passenger... just ask them to hold your cup...
