exhaust compatibility

hello, I was just wondering whether any other rover backboxes fit the R8. I am looking for an aftermarket exhaust for slightly more sound in my gti and I am only able to find examples from an MG ZR. The exhaust backbox on the mk3 rover 200 visibly seems identical to the r8, the flange to the centre section is the same, the curve in the piping is the same, but i was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them and if it genuinely is a direct bolt on or if I am wasting my time looking them up and should get a custom one made. I know a custom one is the smarter play here but I would like an answer regardless for future reference :D

I don't think the R200 mk3 or 25 exhaust will fit the R8. The R8 exhaust routing goes through the rear suspension and the car overall is much longer, whilst the R3 has a completely different rear suspension design which means the pipe routing has to avoid everything. The R3 exhausts look like they have a very significant bend at the fitting end - much more pronounced than the R8.

Piper do GTi stainless exhausts. There are single and double outlet back boxes available which are smaller than the original and the outlets look larger to me, so they've probably got the sportier sound you want.

There used to be some Sport X (or SportX) back boxes for sale that offered a throatier sound, but I can't find one for the R8 just at the moment - just the R3. They are black with a bright chrome exhaust tip, and were available a while ago for about £90.

You could also consider Hornet, but these are DIY exhaust parts than need pipe fabrication or other custom work to join them onto your existing mid section.

On my 216 k series coupe the previous owner fitted the system from an R3 (Rover 25) the centre pipe seems to be the same but the backbox was slightly shorter and instead of being in the centre of the rear bumper exit for exhaust was off to one side slightly. Other than that it fitted without fouling anything. I have had the car 16yrs and just replaced it and didnt have problems

Yeah, but that's a Rover K series car (the R3) fitting to the "K series" version of the coupe. It stands to reason Rover would have sought to not make many changes to the exhaust system layout. Honda engine R8 cars have a different exhaust system design.
