The tubby gets a new rad + Samcos

Post by tompinney »

For almost as long as I've owned my 420GSiT it has been suffering from a phantom waterleak. Initial thoughts were waterpump. After much heartache and agro I replaced that to find that I was still loosing water from somewhere :(

While doing that I noticed a few hoses were looking a touch ropey so before Christmas I ordered a set of Samco coolant hoses. Three weeks ago, despite the fact I'm still missing a hose from the set, I fitted those that I had because one of the hoses already on the car had properly sprung a leak. Sadly this didn't cure my water loss problem

I soon identified what I believed to be a leak in the rad so I removed it and had it recored. After all the goings on with the rad coming back bigger than it was before, I have now finally refitted it today, along with flushing the coolant system through with a dose of Holts RadFlush...

Here is the radiator before it went away, plus a close-up of the area that was leaking.

While the rad was out I decided to get the rad frame spruced up too. This is what it looked like before it went off.

Here is the rad the day it came back, along with some shots of the shotblasted and powder coated frame.

Close up of some of the Samcos on the car (very impressed with the quality of the hoses I have).

And a wide shot of the bay and my new Magnecors, which I hope will cure my misfire.

The bay isn't quite up to my normal cleanliness standards, but if this new rad has cured my phantom water leak I'll be able to turn my attention to that.

I paid £140 posted for the set from Amber Performance, however I am missing a hose whcih I'm arguing with Samco over. They claim I ordered the complete set before the new extra hose was added for the A/C cars, but I now have email proof that this isn't the case, so I hope to receive my missing hose soon!
