I'm pretty sure Rover's used the Cit/Pug (PSA) XUD series diesels as used in the ZX / BX / 306 / 405 (and probably many others).
I don't know if they mated it to a Rover or PAS gearbox.

up to 96 was the Peugeot lump with rover gear box
Just an oil and filter every 6000 mile will last a life time

To clarify:
you have a Peugeot PSA XUD 7 Turbo. 76 BHP
The '7' stands for 1'7'69 cubic centimeters. There's also a version with a fitted intercooler (which I have) which bumps it up to 88 BHP.
