The front electric windows on my SEi are very slow at winding up and down - any suggestions?

Although it could be a motor problem there are other things that could contribute to this. Corroded contacts in the power feed or earthing, lack of lubrication in the drive linkages or just crud in the window channels. Try a little WD40 in the latter first. If it works than after it's evaporated you can replace it with any silicone spray furniture polish. Avoid any that includes any form of wax as it will just set hard in cold weather and just make things even worse.

The proper stuff is silicone spray. Often called rubber and nylon lubricant too.

However if you have any back to black or similar then this works just as well (as it has silicone in it).

Swap the can lid for the one from the WD40 with a straw on the end and direct into the window channel and squirt it in all the channels and wind the windows up and down lots of times to work it into the right places.

Also a top tip is to spray it onto a cloth and wipe the door seals with it too as it stops them freezing shut in winter.

Don't use WD40 as this actually attacks the rubber slightly and will eventually make the problem worse rather than better.

The rover 600 suffers from this problem terribly and it destroys the winder mechanism usually. However with a bit of lube mine is still on the original mechanism despite its high milage. It was actually part of the service schedule I believe.

Did the silicon spray improve your windows or is it off to the scrappy ?

Not had chance to try yet mate - been offered some replacement motors but want to try and find a new door card for the drivers side first - I think the old card has been slightly bashed causing it to rub against the window a bit!

Had a productive Rover day today - new oil, filters, plugs / leads etc etc - runnign better now!

The doorcard won't be rubbing on the window as the doors inside skin is in the way.

There's a bracket to the right (lock mechanism side) inside the door cavity that secures the door runner using a small 10mm bolt, maybe worth pulling out the entire window runner and checking for any contaminants that may be causing the window to run slow and at the same time you can then get to clean the edges of the glass as this may remove any surface grime too.
This may lead to a smoother run for the glass and worth eliminating, sometimes while driving with the window open various debris will collect in the slider and then opening or closing the window would drag down or spread causing a potential slowing of the window.

Again, this isn't going to cost any money so its worth checking out.

Took your advice and cleaned and lubricated the window guides and the drivers side is now working fine! Just too cold to do the other side! Sat in front of a coal fire trying to get the feeling back in my hands. Thnaks for your helps and advice on this one.
