Hi,

Could anyone help me with an alarm problem please?!

I removed the battery from the car to charge it after it went flat but every time I reconnect the battery connections (positive lead first, followed by negative) the alarm immediately beings to go off.

I have two working fobs but no amount of pressing the buttons on the fobs will switch the alarm off. It's even making me doubt whether the fobs work now but they both did a week or so ago.

I also know the Key Access Code.

Does anyone know the correct process to reconnect it please. ie connect battery, shut bonnet immediatley, press a certain button on the fob a certain number of times etc, pointing the fob at a certain part of the car etc, should the drivers door be locked/unlocked when the battery is connected?!

I've been trying the start the car for nearly a week now and didn't really want to call the RAC out for what should be an easy job!

Car is a Rover 216Sli M reg, 1994

hmmm, I dont have this problem if I disconnect battery andf reconnect.

You sure the alarm was disabled before you disconnected?

if it does sound, you would think pressing the unlock would disarm it. try it 4 times.

its a bit odd why it would do that, anything else you have done to the car since the battery was disconnected? Not got an earth lead disconnected somewhere?

This happens to me all the time after a disconnect of battery on my cabriolet as its always locked with bonnect on latch.

Close all doors if open and press the fob button twice ( unlock i think )

Works every time for me.

Check batterys in fob are not flat stand next to drivers door and press twice.

The reason this happens i think is the bonnet sensore is activated on reconnection of battery

Thanks for your replies.

The problem is sorted now with your help. I connected the battery (negative lead last) and the alarm sounded start away. I shut the bonnet down, attempted to press the fob - the lock botton at least four times but it continued to sound. I then moved on to the unlock button which I pressed at least 4 times but the alarm continued to go off.
I then turned the key on the drivers door to lock it and it stopped!

I then used the fob to unlock it and it's been fine ever since.

So, if the battery on the car ever goes completley flat, and you take it off the car (to charge it) and then come to reconnect it, the bonnet must be closed immediately, and with the case with my car, the drivers door lock needs to be turned.
