When the alarm is armed how fast should the red light flash? mine flashes once per second, is that normal?

Seems about right.

The blink much faster when arming I seem to remember

yep about right unless you open the door then it should blink a lot faster.

Yep. Mine does the almost same, blinks very rapidly when arming, 1 second pulses when armed but a solid red when the door is opened using the key, rather than the fob. Anything else sets the alarm off
