We had a 1994 mk1 414 with aircon when we lived in Spain - it was a Saudi Arabian model and had a full leather interior, coupe-style 7 spoke alloys and the high level centre armrest.
The aircon was designed to trip out when full throttle was selected to ensure no power loss when you needed it most but the rest of the time you never noticed it. The aircon was so effective that on humid days it would create "clouds" at the air vents.

We should never have sold it when we came back to the UK - even though it was LHD.

They are all plastic. Cars with lower grey body halfs had a grey panel with a black ribbon in it. Early GTi models, as well as later models with full body coloured bumpers and door bottoms had a black panel. The painted, slick panel was fitted to 2 litre models as well as some variations of the Cabriolet and to all Coupé variants. Did I forget any?
Changing is very easy, as they are held on by a coupld of screws only.
Regards,
Alexander
