Hi, I'm in the need for a new oxygen sensor to fit my '95 214 SEi.
Been informed that the correct part number for my car is the MHK10004. Will an oxygen sensor from a 95-99 400 MK2 / 200 MK3 (part no. MHK100840) fit my 214 SEi, as the engine and ECU is virtually the same? Is the connector plug the same?

Some guys warned me they were not accurate and reliable so I should get an original replacement part.

If you're able to wire the plug onto a new sensor yourself, you can save a lot of money simply by buying a sensor for universal use from Bosch or NGK. These would come with 4 wires which need to be connected to the original loom of the defective sensor. The original sensor would be one from either company with some more wire, a plug and a much higher price...
I was looking for one for my Honda engined car: Nearest Honda dealer (No Rover dealers at all closer than 70kms): 160 Euro. The same can be bought through online dealers at about 120 Euros. A used one from a scrappy would be about 30. If you go and buy a universial model: 30-50 Euros for a new one and a bit of extra work fitting it.

Bosch asked me €120 for a new compatible O2 sensor, and a new original one at the dealer it's about 220€.

I don't know if the part numbers changed or not but the only difference I can imagine between the early and later cars is the length of the wire to the plug. I think all the plugs were the same and the sensor itself will be the same. If it looks physically the same then it'll perform the same when fitted to the car.
