Hi All,
I have just bought my first cabriolet i have had many Rover 800s P5/6bs SD1s over but never a 216 cabriolet its a 1995 216 auto with the Honda engine it was cheap due to the power hood not opening fully I have had a look today hoping to weld it but the cast bit has been broken the bit that holds the rod with the two ball joints at either end if that makes sense Could anyone tell me if its an easy job to replace the frame and if they are cheap to buy has anyone got one to sell me? any advice or help very much appreciated
Cheers,
Chas.
I have a spare frame in my garage but keep it for spares myself. I've seen complete frames with wrecked hoods come up on ebay from time to time so might be worth buying a complete spare.
Breakers are understandable reluctant to break parts of roofs.
When i bought the car the previous roof was on its last legs so i just bought a complete hood (inc frame) from ebay and swapped the whole lot over. That was very easy, took me (and a friend to help lift) less than an hour.
Swapping the hood from frame to frame would be very tricky i imagine, but you should be able to replace parts of the frame pretty easily.
Nice one thanks for the advice but i'm now thinking would it be easier to buy a cabriolet with a working hood than eff about with this one What is my cab worth in its present condition ie a 1995 nightfire red 216 auto with cream leather interior and hood honda mechanicals runs faultless The bodywork is very good the leather interior is very good except drivers seat which has a tear The mot has just just ran out (17.6.11) 4 very good tyres incl spare the hood has a small hole in it and frame needs repair is taxed until end oct.
Cheers,
Chas.
To be honest i think it would be easier to repair than buy a new car. Given that yours sounds in good mechanical order, another might / would have problems of its own.
The thing is my mate has a cabriolet automatic and he maybe selling soon and its a low mileage minter if i get £300 off mine i would be happy or is that a bit ambitious do you think
