Any wedge diesel will be a pug XUD engine. They are either NASP 1.9 or turbo 1.7 engines

Depends on how they are both tuned and driven, but in standard form that seams a reasonable suggestion.

Advice please

Post by dangermouse »

Apologies for raking up an old thread, just did a forum search for 'veggie' and this popped up.

I am thinking about getting a Rover diesel, in order that I can save money by using a diesel/veggie oil mix as fuel.

I understand I should be looking for the newer 200/400, due to them having a Bosch pump on the L-series engine, is this true of all L-series rovers?

I am basically asking for others experience of this, have any of you done this? and what advice can you give me?

Veg oil is now almost as expensive as diesel so the savings aren't as good as they were. If you get used veg oil for free and clean it up then it can still be viable though.

Yes all the L series 2/4/600's 25/45/zr/zs have bosch pumps. There are 3 different types of pump but they'll all tollerate a veggie mix.

Thanks for the prompt reply, sorry this isn't as speedy, but I had to get some sleep!

I should be able to get a free supply of used oil, so I'm still on!

What would be involved in cleaning up the oil? A friend suggested i'd need to filter it to get any frying debris removed.

Then I'd need to leave it to allow any water to separate and sink to the bottom, then draw the oil off the top.

Would that be it? Or there any other issues to consider?

I don't pretend to know a lot about it, but here is a good website that has everything you'll need to know.
