Hi guys, back home and car purchased.

It's a Rover 420 GSi Tourer, which I collected from Devon today. I stopped overnight last night and drove it back. This is the replacement for my 416 GSi that I sold recently. With the sale of that and the purchase of this I have broke even .

As for the car, bodywise it's in mint condition, no rust anywhere. It's had a full respray and mechanical overhaul.

The guy purchased it a couple of years ago having seen it laying forlornly on a neighbour's drive. He knocked and asked about the car and they were "waiting for the scrap man to pick it up". He duly purchased it and put it back into use, spending a lot of money on it to get it back up to scratch. (Brakes, new exhaust, clutch, radiator, thermostat, cam belt, headlining replaced etc).

It's been serviced at the ex Rover main dealer all it's life (which now sells new MGs as well as Mazdas).

There are couple of things that need sorting, eg clock goes on and off, stereo needs a code and I don't have it, wood trim by clock is cracked, engine seems to idle a bit high even when warm (1200 RPM). But in short, very pleased with my purchase.

Cheers mate, I'll take you up on that. I'll bob over at some point.

Good shout regarding the idle screw - job for next week :)

I was going to ask if that was an ex club-member's car because I saw a 420GSi tourer for sale for 2.5K recently.

If it's a straight swap money-wise for the 416 then you've done extremely well :D

It's the only model where you can keep the highest trim level, 4 doors and go up in terms of performance. Also extremely useful cavernous boot space - you'll never have to worry about luggage going on holiday ever again :laughing2 Night fire is an excellent phase 2 colour as well.

Don't think you could have done better TBH.

Idle shouldn't be a problem. Wood trim is easy. You should make a point of feeding the leather with a care product of your choice to keep the driver's seat looking that good... other than that, I don't think it needs anything other than a vacuum...

Yes it is a member's ex car, purchased from Brixham in Devon.

That engine by the way - quick! And effortless in 5th gear going up hill on the motorway.

Needs a good clean, wash and polish and a few cosmetics sorting and all should be well!

That's a very handsome thing, I'm ever so slightly jealous over here because that's pretty much exactly how I'd spec one new.
