5AS immobilizer repair/ by pass
As above, still messing on with my 214 sli and its looking like the fault could be in this box, nothing else left to try. I know years ago you could get a harness that plugged into these but the company I got one off years ago is no longer trading. Can anyone suggest a company that can test and repair these??

To get the immobiliser bypassed or to code a replacement 5AS unit to the car, you will need a specialist with Rover Microcheck or Testbook.
Alternatively, somebody with 'pscan' and the pre-OBD test harness.
However...........I have had a look at the circuit diagrams in the Rover workshop manual and I don't think the 5AS unit can cause the fault you are experiencing. (Having read your other thread about this).
The 5AS sends out a signal on one wire to enable the starter motor circuit to work and one more signal on a different wire to enable the engine ECU to do its job.
So, based on the fact you can get the car to run on 'Easy Start', the ECU must have received its signal from the 5AS, otherwise you would have no spark. The problem either has to be within the ECU, or on one of the inputs to the ECU that will influence the fuel pump or injector timing.
If you could provide me with an email address, I can scan and send you the circuit diagram tomorrow.
Other things to think about or investigate:
You have fuel present at the injectors and can hear the pump priming. Is there sufficient fuel pressure? (I am not sure if there is a regulator in the system somewhere).
Could there be a partial blockage in the main fuel line from the tank to the engine bay, or in the pipework between the filter and the injector rail?
When you have the engine running on 'Easy Start', does the tachometer work? (if not, it may not be receiving a signal from the ECU and it is possible that this signal would be used by the ECU to confirm that the engine is running and send a 'run' signal to the fuel pump relay).
If you want to rule out the possibility of an internal ECU fault, I do have one that you could borrow, as long as my postage costs are met. It was from a 1994/5 214SEi and was taken off because of an internal fault that stopped it reading the coolant temperature signal. This caused difficult starting in cold weather and a high idle speed when warm, plus heavy fuel consumption because the ECU was using a default (limp) value to run the engine. The immobiliser part of it has been de-activated, so it will run on any car without needing to be programmed.

Pscan.uk should be able to diagnose that.
Re: 5AS immobilizer repair/ by pass
Just a quick up date on this so you know where I'm at with it. I've had a few pm's back and forwards with gsi220turbo and checked lots out today again so thanks Paul I do appreciate the help. Anyway to save me typing it all out again here is a copy of the email I've just sent back to Paul.
Hi Paul, thanks for all your help with this. We have really gone through it today, checked all wiring, fuses and relays, wired the fuel pump so that it was constantly live from the engine bay fuse box which proved both the pump works and all the wiring to it. There is fuel in the injector rail and we have a spark as it runs on easy start. There is power getting to the injectors harness and the crankshaft sensor which I swapped again today taking the new one out and putting a used known good one in.
We have now come back to it must be an ECU fault as with my original ecu the car doesn't even try to fire but with the recon replacement one fitted (the one that ran for 10 min) the car tries to fire after the pump has primed so it looks as if the ECU is then not sending the message to open the injectors at the correct time.
I'll ring Best of Rover Spares on Monday to see if I can send the ECU I got from them back so they can test it.
Thanks again Chris.

Re: 5AS immobilizer repair/ by pass FIXED
Fixed at last it was an ECU fault. My original one had failed then the recon replacement I got only started the car once which I was then looking for other faults. Anyway I returned the ECU to the supplier and when I got back from my holidays the replacement was here. plugged it in and car starts first time every time again. So all I need now is an mot, which it will pass no problem then back on the road.
Thankyou to everyone who has helped me try and sort this strange problem.
