I thought that I'd read somewhere that total production was approx' 930,000 mark?

Re: How many R8's left - do we have a definitive number?
I’ve seen there are only 3 1996 registered 214 SEi’s taxed at present, but about 140 taxed that were registered in 1994/95.
Mine is one of the three 1996 ones which is pleasing to know - seems I’ve got one of the latest registered 214 SEi’s in existence

The EPC will only give you a list of UK cars for which reg numbers are known and matched to a VIN. I've extracted that list myself and it has a total of a little over 500,000 VINs.tompinney wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 1:02 pm Sadly no build totals, but I might be able to determine that from the later EPCs because apparently they do have the VINs listed. My early 2002 EPC copy doesn't have that information sadly.
An interesting if slightly useless stat, 267 of these cars are still with their original purchaser and one is on its 22nd owner![]()
But there's been close to a million car produced. A little over 55% of the production was for home market, the rest was export markets...
AD-prefix cars have numbers ranging from 200001 (1st production car) to AD871145 (last UK-reg'ed AD-prefix car) so that's a total of approx. 671,145 cars built before BD-cars were introduced for MY94.5 (early 1994 summer).
BD-prefix cars start at BD001001 and end at BD249441 for the 1st production line they were built on, that's an additional 248441 cars, and then from BD900001 to XD935068 (XD was for MY98, with WD as interim for MY97 when they finally decided to encode each different MY into the VIN) on the 2nd production line where the production of Tourer, Cab and Coupe was relocated when it was decided that they'd still be produced when the new 200 and 400 would have launched and taken over the other R8 variants. So that's an additional 35,068 cars.
In total this amounts to 954,653 cars, not a final figure as I only base this on the assumption that last VIN for each batch was indeed the last car of that batch, where it is only known this was the last RHD car for which a UK reg is known.

The "official' figures quoted by Rover at the end of production was 953,699. Whether that is based on a true calculation or whether it was someone in the Press Office quickly putting some figures together to come up with a number to report I don't know!

Drilling down to 1990 GTi's there is only one taxed and on the road, it might be mine or it might be someone else's.
We may go on and off SORN from time to time. Which probably confuses DVLA. There is an April Update due on the site
Anyway, pretty rare car if it is just the one, and I may have the earliest one around (but I have seen an earlier 3 door on the road a few years ago and more recently an earlier one of the 9 on SORN)

You're assuming the cars were registered correctly when you use the how many left website. The DVLA data I've got is really inconsistent, lots of fields dealers clearly didn't bother filling correctly if at all, the model included.
You cant tell 420GSi Sport Turbos from later GSI Turbos using the model field in the data for example unless you can decide the vin properly. With the data I have I can decode the VIN and get an accurate number of what's left regardless of what the dealer put down for make and model.
Will certainly be interesting to see how my numbers from VIN decoding compare to what is on the how many left site.

I am sure with your expertise Tom that you can knock up a site similar to howmanyleft based on the vin decoding.

I would be one of the 267 original owners
Re: How many R8's left - do we have a definitive number?
Tom, if I gave you the VIN what could that tell you about my car?
Just wondering?
