Long time lurker finally saying Hello.

Post by Doclivcm »

Evening all,
Long time lurker and short time club member finally saying hello here.
Only ever had 3 cars in my long life so a little bit of backround:
1st car was a '85 Honda Accord (given to me by my late father-in-law when he passed away in '99). Excellent car. Bodywork was very tired and was relaxing to drive. (So relaxing I didn't even realise I was doing 107 on a stretch of the A303 with the wife and mother-in-law until I looked down at the speedo!)
I had to scrap it in 2005 due to it failing the MOT with massive inside rust holes. It had done over 141K miles and would have kept going.
2005 to 2010 was a Mk4 Escort. A real pain in the backside through letting me down constantly with one thing or another. Which brings me round to the Rover:
I had gone with my sister when she was buying it in 2001. Before that she had a Maestro and a Montego. As soon as I realised it had the Honda engine I was "Yep! Take that!"
It's a '95 416SLi in Nightfire Red. Lurking the forum I was under the impression that those were Automatic but mine is definitely a Manual.
She kept it going for 8 years and then it was sitting on her drive for a year due to her getting a new car.
It was over Christmas dinner 2009 when the Escort was really getting to me she said I could have it for free if I wasn't liable to sell it.
I jumped at the chance and all it needed to get through the MOT was a new Exhaust back box and battery.
The paintwork was tired and the drivers side had a big dent in both doors.
However I gave it a makeover in 2015 and apart from HGF in 2016 nothing majorly wrong with it and it just ticked over 150K last month (very much a working car that turns heads and finding other drivers give me a bit more room).
I absolutely refuse to get rid of it as there are only aesthetic bits wrong with it. Even if this Outer London ULEZ comes in someone else can take it as it is nowhere near a scrapheap yet!
I found the old pictures of the makeover the other day if anybody is interested in me uploading them to the gallery.
Rover Revival - You may well be getting a call from me this year!
Sorry for the rambling. Once again - Hello all. :thumbup

How can a MK4 Escort be unreliable unless it's a RS Turbo or a XR3i they still have a carburettor, mechanical fuel pump distributor and coil :S :laughing2

Every MOT was an oil leak coming from somewhere but the one that really got to me was the sudden loss of power at 70mph on the M1 with the kids in the car. No response from the accelerator until the speed dropped to almost 40 then it just picked up again.
