Hi everyone I’m about to tackle my first ever timing belt and water pump change on my 216 SLI - Honda SOHC engine. Any tips for a novice to avoid problems and are there any special tools I need ?
Thanks
Neil

The crank pulley bolt is very tight, you need either a very powerful impact gun or a 4 ft plus long breaker bar because you will need an impact socket + extension. It's r/h thread and Japanese engines run backwards so that's anti clockwise looking at the crankshaft pulley.
You need a tool to lock the flywheel to torque it up.

Note you need to remove the engine mount & support the engine/gearbox ass'y.

Try and buy Cambelt kit that includes the spring + waterpump.

It's not a easy job so not for a beginner, if you lack the appropriate tools it might be a better idea to give the job to a Rover trained mechanic if you know of one?

Thanks for that Teddy, I think I will get a mobile mechanic in. When you mention engine mounts and supporting the engine, etc, that’s beyond me. You have saved me problems so thank you mate
