Re: Intermittent misfire.

Sounds like you've been very thorough and replaced everything potentially a problem apart from the ECU. If you can get it to stall again and there is no spark at the plugs, check to see if there is a spark at the coil. Also check the resistance of the HT lead from the coil to the distributor. If you...

Re: Head Gasket HELP HELP HELP !!

What engine do you have? I had quite a long thread a couple of years ago about HGF on our early 1990 214. There are some views on head gaskets etc. which might be helpful. See https://rover200.org.uk/forums/topic/15296 . DMGRS has some advice on head gaskets too at https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/pages/choo...

Re: 1.4 k-series bottom pulley problem.

Had the same problem on my early 1990 K-series, the inner rubber damper on the pulley was starting to perish. Like you plan to, I fitted LHG10008 a couple of years ago and it does the job perfectly while only using the alternator part of the pulley.

Has anyone got the Electrical Fault Finding Manual AKM7215ENG

I wonder if anyone has got the Electrical Fault Finding Manual AKM 7215 ENG. An electronic copy is on the Club website under the Members Area, however the page I need is missing for some reason. I'm having problems with the rear wiper, initially working intermittently and now not at all. I would lik...

Re: Really random idle revs

That's good that the car is useable. If the idle stays at 1500 rpm it's not a major issue. It would be interesting to know what the exhaust analysis shows when it's idling at 1500. The fundamentals remain, however, the engine is somehow getting enough air and the ECU injecting enough fuel to tick ov...

Re: Really random idle revs

Interesting. To run steadily at 1500 rpm, I would think the engine needs to be getting sufficient air. I'm suspicious that the throttle valve may be slightly open for some reason, maybe it's stiff or being held open by the stepping motor even when it's disconnected. Or it could be air getting in by ...

Re: Really random idle revs

BTW, what workshop manual are you using. I've just looked at the Haynes manual and realise my SPi car is somewhat different to your MPi model. They do have some info on setting up the accelerator cable and TPS on pages 4C-3 to 4C-7 for the MPi model. It mentions in connection with the TPS (potentiom...

Re: Really random idle revs

I agree with SteveB, the exhaust "smoke" did look like steam but could include coolant. Last week you said it smelled of burning. I've found the 214 exhaust pipe can collect condensation inside which evaporates when the engine gets hot and makes a quite steamy exhaust. Thanks for the new v...

Re: Engine oil

Maybe MTF stands for Manual Transmission Fluid. For many years I used Total BV 75W-80 gear oil which is what Rover originally specified. For the last few years I've used Dex III ATF after being recommended to use it by a couple of transmission specialists. I think the gear change is slightly slicker...

Re: Really random idle revs

That does sound bad, and more than just an idling problem. Could well be a problem with the TPS or the ECU. I assume you've no reason to suspect there is anything else wrong with the engine. Think you showed a video of a lot of smoke a week ago. Did you get to the bottom of that? Have you done a com...
