Re: Front Brake Hose for 1990 214
It's been a while, but I've now fitted the new hoses to the 214 (other car jobs and Christmas intervened). I've tried the braided stainless steel hoses. A bit more expensive but there's never going to be any corrosion as the ends are stainless steel including the banjo bolts. I went for the braided ...

Re: Rover 216 cutting out when hot
I agree. Check if there is a spark is the first thing. If there isn't, it could be that the ECU isn't asking for one because it's not getting a timing pulse from the crankshaft position sensor. I'm not familiar with the Honda engine, but I've had a sudden stop on our 214 which was an intermittent cr...

Re: Water pump - use of sealant?
Silicone grease is usually safe with rubber seals, or red rubber grease. Lubrication is good to ensure the seal beds properly. If the mating surfaces are good, the O-ring would normally be sufficient, but I haven't seen the actual assembly.

Re: Have I got a serious problem developing?
Done about 370 miles now without incident. So far so good. I took it round for an emissions test this afternoon, ahead of the MOT next month. Here are the results: CO 0.45% HC 216 ppm Propane 463 ppm CO2 14.3% Lambda 1.032 O2 1.17% The CO reading is quite low for a non-catalyst car. I did suspect th...

Re: Archive of the old Rimmer Bros Parts Listings?
In the last day or so, I've had problems with my old computer which runs XP and an early version of Firefox. The guy who fixed it put in a replacement hard drive, reloaded XP and Firefox (c.2015) which we tested runs the Infomill EPC. He said the EPC is very early and the software was looking for Ne...

Re: Have I got a serious problem developing?
Just a brief update. I've now done 170 miles without any funny business from the engine. So far so good, but I'll need to probably do 1000 miles to be sure the problem was in the old ECU. Think I'll take it along for an emissions test, well ahead of the MOT. I believe it is possible to trim the fuel...

Re: Have I got a serious problem developing?
The replacement ECU has so far performed well. Apart from local journeys, we took it on a 50 mile round trip yesterday without incident. However, it's still early days. Given that the previous faults occurred very infrequently, I may have to wait a while to know if the old ECU was the problem. I hav...

Re: Archive of the old Rimmer Bros Parts Listings?
As I mentioned earlier, the EPC I have for the early R8s and SD3 was called Infomill and came from MG Rover I believe. Copies were certainly around on CD and I got my copy from the founders of the Rover 200/400 Club around 2007/8. It has however become increasingly difficult to use with upgrades to ...

Re: Have I got a serious problem developing?
Did a bit more work on this today. As mentioned, the spare ECU I bought last week initially appeared to work with good data readings on RoverMEMS App. However, when I tried driving the car the engine died. The Diagnostic now showed the MAP sitting permanently at 10 kPa, so it had clearly failed afte...

Re: Have I got a serious problem developing?
Opened up one of the non-working ECUs. To take out the board, remove the crosshead screws marked S and SL, the SL screws are long ones going through the heatsinks. You don't need to remove the screws in between as these hold the heat sink to the PCB. https://i.ibb.co/Z26JPrT/IMGP0017.jpg The board s...
