Re: Hello

Hello Peter & welcome to the club! I hope you enjoy your new car and as you say she looks to be in good nick, probably spent its parked life in a garage I expect. I have seen photo's of examples with extreme rot in the sills and around the rear arches so some underbody cavity protection will be ...

Re: Front Brake Hose for 1990 214

That's very informative thanks! I've been considering HEL components myself and was wondering about the quality. Regarding fluid changes I would say every 3 years max depending on where you live and the climatic conditions. I now live 20 miles away from the Bristol Channel and [to me] it's very humi...

Re: R8 Cars with Infrared fobs - future support?

Is there a fitting option with this?

My 93 has been recommissioned and is in a shakedown process at the moment.

Everything works fine by using the key presently, are there potential problems just using the key?

Re: Tyre size for 416gsi

I think that you're meant to fit new tyres as a axle set to the back first and not the front wheels. The larger wheels & tyres 185 x 55 will be very heavy without power steering. The 14" lattice alloys would be a better bet. It must help [in terms of steering effort] to keep the car moving ...

Re: Have I got a serious problem developing?

It might be an ECU fault? Talk to Jon Wilcox down here in Wickwar he still has the appropriate Rover Fiche, best to catch him in the mornings. I believe he will post stuff. He did have someone who tested/repaired ECU's. It would be a great pity to scrap the old girl over something that should be rep...

Re: Transmission Cooler

Mine didn't jerk through the gears from what I can remember. The transmission oil cooler was really fitted for towing purposes; there would be more slip in the torque converter, due to the higher load and the need to generate more torque at the wheels to overcome the inertia of the extra load being ...

Re: Have I got a serious problem developing?

Bad fuel?

I mainly run my Ronda on Esso E5 I know that my 89 216GSi started running poorly due to a combination of short journeys to work & supermarket fuel.

There was a early 214 GSi for sale down in Portsmouth back in the summer but they wanted big bucks for it.

Re: R8 216 - Parts common to SOHC and DOHC models

There basically different cars Hardly anything is the same even the engine blocks are different That seems a bit harsh :) However, I take your point - it's probably better to think of them as two different models that have some parts in common rather than two variants of the same model. Having said...
