All UK plates have denoted place of issue since 1903. The three letters together denote the issuing authority letter code, e.g. my Alfa is N860 CMM : where N states it was sold new in 1996, and CMM belonged to Middlesex. So I have an outer-London car. Yeah but not worth risking 60 or 80 quid or whatever it is and three points! Are you sure? That's the first I've heard of issuing of points. The MOT tester will fail it and therefore legally it is deemed not roadworthy with them fitted - which becomes a sticking point with your insurer in the event...

The non-turbo 418 used the 1.9 XUD9. The turbo 418 used the intercooled XUD7
