Had a spare earth cable on another car so I've managed to fix that and Bob's your uncle: car is running!

Thanks for the pointer to the gearbox casing. Said it already but the info given when I first asked is much appreciated.

Finally got to the car and.... I'd suggest that this should be attached somewhere!!

Yes, it does have the belt driven pump which is timed with the belt.
I've checked the connecters for a bad earth, but will look again on Sat.

Oh, I do have a Voltmeter..... whether I can use it accurately or correctly is another matter!

Had the battery disconnected for about a month. Reconnected it and pressed the key fob in random pattern and after five or six presses, the door locks worked. Thanks for that. I did look there but thought it too small to be the starter motor!
