Re: R8 GTI SILL Flare Fixings
I believe there were headed pins in the sill flange that slotted into a keyhole slots in the flange on the bottom of the sill flare. When the sills get repaired you lose the pins. I have the same problem with my 416 GTi and have yet to come up with a solution that is flexible enough to allow the fla...

Re: Track Rod End - Split Pin or Nylon Lock Nut
I believe the trick is : undo the tie rod locknut by half a turn, remove the old track rod end, fit the new track rod end to the lock nut, back the new end off by half a turn then do up the lock nut. I’m not too fussed if it’s out a bit as it needs checking. Not sure how easy the rear adjustment wil...

Re: Track Rod End - Split Pin or Nylon Lock Nut
Thanks for all the comments.
Have cleaned all the threads, lubricated them with penetrating oil and managed to break the grip on the tie rod lock nuts and all the parts are moveable.
So hopefully now a straightforward replacement, fingers crossed.

Re: Track Rod End - Split Pin or Nylon Lock Nut
Thanks for both your inputs. Sadly I’m old enough to remember the days of castle nuts, just! :laughing2 and I spent a career to the aerospace industry. I’ll fit as supplied. As a DIY’er I don’t necessarily have previous experience of some jobs or it was decades ago so it’s good to get some professio...

Track Rod End - Split Pin or Nylon Lock Nut
Just getting around to replacing the Track Rod Ends on my 91 Rover 416 which I brought from Rimmers 5 years ago but have never fitted them. However as I am working through replacing all the bushes and parts on the front suspension I decided it was time to fit them. The parts brought from Rimmers is ...

Re: Rover 220 Coupe Turbo Ex-Dunlop Racer
Another good read.
Good to see you're finding time to work on the coupe. Life’s other important priorities can sometimes get in the way of a project.
I moved house in 2023 and did one job on my Rover that year

Re: Rover 416 GTI Auto - Restoring an old friend

Just need to b...

Re: Stuck Window - Help
Well new window mechanism installed and working perfectly. Glass was well stuck in it’s runners. Not sure if this was the original cause of the motor failure or just the 5+ years it’s been stuck shut. Will at some point open up the motor and see if it can be repaired. It was a bit of job disconnecti...

Re: 1991Rover 416 window control unit part number
The Honda conrol units do nor have a one spot down option couid it be you have one of those fitted instead of a Rover one Thanks for the information. That’s really interesting. I guess I just need to work out what I’ve got and whether it’s the right one or , at some point before I had the car, the ...
