The workshop manual says to
Remove alternator adjustment bolt > Remove bolt, alternator link to water pump>
Remove nut, alternator pivot bolt> Pivot alternator and release belt from pulley >
Remove pivot bolt> Release alternator from mountain bracket.

It was very hot as soon as I opened the boot which I'm guessing was the culprit as since disconnecting it's been fine, just need to eat more carrots now

So it's been a while since I put the cooler on and all seems well so far, I use the car for at least 3 days a week and I do about 32 miles getting to work and back on mostly 50 mph dual carriage ways. Just an update, it was the bulb in the boot staying on that caused the battery dying on me

Yeah battery light goes off fine. Thanks I'll try testing with the meter and see what's happening, just thought it was strange with the interference as I've never experienced that before, but

Interference
So I was on the drive with the 416 ticking over as the battery went flat, and the Mrs said when the car was running she was getting interference on her phone watching youtube videos. Not sure if it's related but the battery will last a week tops on the drive before flat, and the voltage is at 12.33 ...

Yeah makes sense the auto lasting longer than the manual, just hope it lasts me ha. I'm going to keep hold of the rad and pipes like you say, might be able to re-core it one day, and the pipes I've kept just to be able to get them remade as they are well past saving.
