Temperature gauge sender unit for N132LHF

Post by Duncan2 »

Hi could do with some help again having received the wrong part from ebay.As has been discussed on this forum at least once before the two litre T series engine has more than one sender screwed into the housing just below the stat.On our car the temperature gauge reads hot if you earth the wire leading to the lower sender unit so we are hopeful that if we replace the screw-in sender we will have a working temperature gauge for the first time in a while. This is obviously the lower one with a single wire.Ebay are sending me the other sender which I think is for the ECU and not for the gauge on the dash.Could someone kindly supply us with a link to the correct replacement part??TIA :S

Does your original one have a spade connector or a bullet connector

thanks for the lightning response 1234dist.Its a spade connector and visually seems identical to the one in your first link.Ours is nasp though not Turbo-the site seems to think it should be the bullet-connector one we need.We are most definitely spade-connector so I am going for the first of your two links-many thanks. :)

Both are correct for the t-series nasp or turbo.

Newer engines have the bullet type but buth are usable.

Hi everyone

I’m a new member and I’m stuck! My car is a 420GSI Tourer 1996MY and the temp sender is not working correctly - shows either nothing or about a 25% reading on the gauge. Check the resistance across the 2 pins it’s definitely duff.

However, I can’t find a replacement. It’s got the rectangle brown 2pin end. The thread is 13mm diameter. All the ones I bought on the basis of a number plate search don’t fit - thread too tiny.

Can anyone help please?

Welcome to the club and forum
Not familiar with this part but have you tried Rimmers or Xpart they might be able to help you?
I had a similar thing with the distributor cap on mine. My registration gave me all sorts of different looking caps for the same registration number. Talking to Xpart turned out there was a change in design on a particular chassis number and the on-line product selectors didn’t pick this up.
Good luck

Thanks for the warm welcome!

That change would make a lot of sense. The thread is about 13mm/ half-inch and I just cannot find one. Tried Rimmers but they have said they don’t stock it. If I’m stuck I may need an adapter or even an earlier thermostat housing. Not sure how many of those will be kicking about! Do members every sell spares to other members?

Have to say I’m loving the car. It drives brilliantly- nice ride over bumps but surprising road holding, quiet but with fantastic sounding engine and loads of poke. I gave the wrong sized tyres at present so will in time swap them which should give better acceleration still! 90,000 mikes but feels like 30,000.

Don’t forget to try Xpart they were more helpful than Rimmers when I had a problem.

Yes theres a section on the forum link below

People put stuff up for sale and if you want something you can put up a request . You just start the topic with Wanted.
Good luck with the search - finding the parts has to be part of the fun of owning the cars.

Thanks for all the top tips. I’ve now managed to track a temp gauge sender which looks to match. I’ve also found a loom clip so I can do away with the tie wraps when it arrives.

I have been studying the Haynes manual for the 214 and 414 and have seen that the fan switch sender seems to not be a simple on or off seemingly feeding into the MEMS along with the temp gauge sender.

When I get a chance in a week or so I’ll see if the temp gauge sender fixes the gauge, the fan kicking in and possibly improve the marginal emissions.
