Little Purple Austin

Post by Vulgalour »

What am I even doing I don't know. Adopted this little rarity this weekend and it'll be arriving at Villa Vulgalour later this month. Because it's an ADO16 it needs some welding. It's been hand-painted purple some years ago. It has most of a green Wolseley interior. I will be keeping it looking pretty much exactly like this bar where any repairs are required.

I've been after an ADO16 for years, and this one in particular has been on my radar for a while only coming up when the timing was wrong. Base model 1100 Austin version and a rare two-door to make those interior parts that bit harder to acquire should I need them. Should be fun!

This is entirely sensible too, with the Princess suffering from a Hydragas leak what I needed right now was a Hydralastic BMC number that's been off the road for five years. Entirely sensible.

I think we used to have one of those as a family - many, many, many years ago. A very dark blue and it was 2 door I think. Sub frame was rotten and the car basically collapsed with 4 kids in it on a school run. I was one of the kids :laughing2

Once upon a time they were everywhere and what you describe sounds like what these did. Italian design influence seemed to stretch as far as their tendency to biodegrade.

Like an early form of soluble painkillers - "dissolve in water" :*laughing my fat rear end off*

I can remember 2 members of my extended family having one each of these. One in a mucky blue and one in Mustard...a VERY early 70's colour :*laughs*

A MK3 in 1100 2Dr form is quite rare. A neighbour had a new one in 1974 in Harvest Gold!

This one used to be Harvest Gold, a truly horrendous colour, the current appearance is a vast improvement.
