Seen it twice now in my home town of Swindon. But both times I was driving and it came past me so couldn't get a really good look.
But it's a J reg (same as my 416GTi) 216 GTi in the same colour scheme, diamond white over tempest grey.
How cool would that be to own same reg, same colour GTi models, one a 216, one a 416

Now just got to find where the owner lives and whether they will sell it to me. it appears it's their daily drive so maybe a swap plus cash with my 214 sprint

Are you sure it's a genuine GTi? I was under the impression that the 200 GTi's were turned out in single body colour. At least all the 3-doors I've seen have been like that.

It'll be a 5-door. All 5-door 216GTi models were duotone. All 3-door models were colour-coded all over.

There's been a white over grey 216 GTi for sale recently, mentioned on this forum. The guy wants £2k for it, but not sure if he's had any takers yet.

Colour is a very subjective and personal thing as we all know, but the white over grey was always my favourite for an early 5-door

Better see if you can track this one down, Steve.

STALKING UPDATE.

I waited this morning at same time and place where it was previously spotted and low and behold the human being is a creature of habit and the car arrived. Managed to get number plate and a quick look at the condition. Seemed to be rust free and in good nick for a daily drive. Checked the MOT history and found a full years MOT on it and it's been MOT'd at the same garage for the past 11 years which happens to be about 3 streets away. So I'm guessing the owner lives locally.
Next task, find the owners house....
