Plans or projects, Car or othersiwe for 2018 ??

Post by ROVER Cabby »

So what do we all have in mind for 2018 folks ?

Anything interesting on the horizon ?

Any potential projects in mind ?

Any projects to get finished ?

Cars are not the only point of interest.

HOPEFULLY, in Feb the builders are in to do the utility, garden and 'garage', can't have a proper brick one so the old
pre-form asbestos one stays as the tool and general store but a wood framed unit will be built to protect the fleet and
make it possible to actually start work on my Cabby, would love a two post lift but height may be an issue but I have
seen some nice alternatives that could work.

Been working like mad to save up for the works, 55-90 hour weeks, thats almost as much time as Dist spends on here
a week, might do less hours this year and be less of a bad friend to thy Lord Dist, think I last saw him in 2015. :blushing

So as it stands I would love to get the Garage built, move all my rubbish from Mother's into it and I could actually start
on the Cabby THIS YEAR !

....and see Dist !

I'm saving to get my huge drive properly paved so there's no mud slides anymore every time it rains. And maybe build some sort of shelters for my two cars I have left. :clapping

Not much to do with the 416 except stainless exhaust and maybe stainless coolant pipes from dist.

And then there's the MGF :tumbleweed

Firstly – Earn the money to fund the projects and allow my good lady to remain a lady of leisure, as she has become accustomed to early retirement.

I suppose I could do with finding somewhere to store all the parts I seem to be accumulating – otherwise I probably won’t need to worry about the Lady of Leisure bit above.

Next is to get our bike returned to the road. It doesn’t require much, mainly aesthetics. New set of 3 Amal carbs arriving in January (or supposedly, they were ordered last August!). Going for a set of stainless downpipes. Old rack needs a modification and then rechroming. A few other bits need rechroming too. Oil leak needs fixing, which will require a top end strip down. Couple of small fixes for MoT test (brake light and number plate). Then hopefully a bit of fun for a few months this year.

Change the engine in my Tourer and then do any other work that is needed to make it roadworthy. This will probably be quite a lot, but I’m not looking to restore it yet – that’ll come later.

In between the above, continue to make progress on restoring Trusty Rusty (1990 216 GSi 224,000 miles). The target for completion is September 2019 but there’s a lot to do and I need a plan and the discipline to go for it. I’d love to get the sills and wheel arch repair panels welded this year, plus get the subframes off, blasted and repainted. If the foundation work can be accomplished most of the rest can be done in small opportunities over the following year.

There is also a BSA Bantam to completely rebuild, but that will probably have to wait a bit longer. As long as it’s done before I die that’s fine. Don’t want to leave a mess behind.

Wishing you all a happy, peaceful and fulfilling 2018.

Cheers,

Duncan

Moving house. Again. Getting a bit fed up of moving house but there you go. Looks like I'm going to be heading either to Lincolnshire or Kent (!). This is what happens when you and your significant other live 6 hours drive apart, after a few years you decide maybe living in the same house might be less faff.

I'm swapping the 1100 too, all being well. That relies on me completing the weldathon it needs first so it's of equal value to the mystery vehicle I'll be swapping it for which needs less welding but much, much more of everything else.

Princess is part way through getting the clutch done and 2018 might be the year I get the bodywork looking somewhat presentable finally, especially since completing the weldathon it needed last year. Just as well I don't mind welding.

Speaking of welding, I've got a rear arch repair to do on the Rover at some point and a whole set of doors to sort through, repair and repaint as necessary to get the best set by combining the various bits and pieces I have. Oh, and I want to complete the folding rear seat conversion too using hatchback parts in the saloon body.

Of course there'll be even more artwork released including the rest of the R8 range I've not done yet. I'm sure even more jobs will appear, they usually do. Going to be a very busy year!

Well it makes sence mate, plus it would be worth making the effort to find the right house, we did that with our first one,
I told the Mrs that it would be the first house and the last house.
