Assuming that you're mostly blatting up the motorway at 80? that's probably about right: book figures are 26.3[URBAN] 48.5 [56MPH] 38.2 MPG [75MPH] these were real world figures back in the day imo anyway. Taken from the Jan 93 spec'

Run her on a good quality unleaded with additives, a regular shot of fuel injection cleaner, use a synthetic 5-40 engine oil and perhaps you can improve on 34?

Haven’t really worked it out accurately but mine is no worse than my 216 manual, and actually better on motorway runs. Next time I fill it up to the top I’ll work it out over the usage of the full tank.

Hello,

Sorry, we have had the car for 10 years now.
Believe me no one could drive more steadily than
me you should hear the grief my daughter gives me
Normally cruise at 60 on the motorway and the car is a good one.
In the real world 33/34 mpg over the year is realistic - that does
include shorter journeys as well. On our journey down to Cornwall
from Berkshire a figure into the 40's can be expected.
Official figures are what they are!

Me again

By chance we ran a 1991 216 for 10 years and from memory
we achieved at least 5 miles more per gallon over the year.
The 420 figures are worked out from full tank to full tank.

That was before the extra mileage required to dodge the pot holes.
