Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has any information regarding this race series involving the rover 216 gti. Possibly looking into doing a replica exterior wise but wondered why the cars didn't use the front wing and bonnet stripes?
Any pictures would be useful to try and get an idea of how to measure up the decals and where they were placed.
I know of a promotional photo of the rover 216 gti and rover metro gti so I could use that for the front wing stripe placements.
Thanks,
Connor.

Re: Rover gti championship
Hi Connor, not a lot of information floating around on the Original Dunlop Rover Gti's that I have managed to find - no doubt it's out there somewhere but locating it isn't easy. I do have some photos of cars and some magazine articles, broadly speaking the colour flashes seemed to change from the early years pictured on Ray Armes car no 12 in the post above to those pictured on my red car also above where the flashes are a different style. I would also l like to know more about the series - I have two of the cars - the red one pictured above which is an amalgamation of bits from a couple of cars rebuilt into a shell (not by me) after the series ended. Many of the cars went on after the Dunlop Rover cup finished to race in BRSCC 216 Gti championship and also in various other series, I know mine was damaged and rebuilt a few years ago and has since been damaged by me again.
I also have another that is original, having been laid up unused since 1998 - fortunately indoors! It is original even down to original fire extinguisher, and I'm wanting to restore it to that spec. rather than modernise it and make it faster. It has retained its broad colour scheme although the Roversport colour flashes have been painted out. I've managed to identify it and confirm it's identity when running in the Dunlop Rover Gti cup in 1995, and who used it afterwards in 1996. Well worth watching are the "Duke" DVD's, Sporting Rovers 93,94 and 95. There's also a Duke Sporting Rovers 96 but no GTi's on it - the series finished in 95. I don't know if there are earlier ones, I couldn't find them listed on Duke website.
Good luck with your project, I'll try and get some pics of what material I have got tomorrow (it's all at work) and upload it here. I must say the thought has crossed my mind of rebuilding my red car into a road registered shell, rather then repairing mine which is pretty badly damaged - but then I have a few projects on the go at the moment anyway!

Re: Rover gti championship
Thanks for the reply Robin,
Sounds like you have a couple of interesting projects with the two genuine Dunlop cars
I have a few roversport news magazines which show a few of the cars throughout the years and the stripes did change quite early on it seems. Around 1993, which is the same time the dunlop metro gti cars changed theirs.
I've seen those Duke dvds, they're a good watch and shows some in car footage too!
Since you have two originals cars would you happen to know the make of the steering wheel? Looks similar to a mountney but has a lot more mounting holes than any I can find.
Thanks,
Connor.
