1997 200 Vi that will be de-MG'd soon

Post by GTiJohn »

I've been lucky enough to be able to buy a rare R3 200 Vi. I picked it up today and it's even better than expected :clapping

I knew it was good but I had my first long'ish drive in it to bring it home and it almost felt new, not 23 years old!

It's been in one family - father and son - since new, has covered 51k miles (only 20k on this Rover-supplied replacement engine, following a timing pully disintegration in 2005) and comes with all the original parts to convert it back to its original condition, which I plan to do over the spring.

As well as the 17" MG 'straights' it has a BRM grille and MG ZR half-leather and Alcantara seats, all of which will be sold following removal.

Howmanyleft shows that there are only 30 Vis still on UK roads :sad

That car was for sale some years ago having been off the road for a while, seeing these pictures reminds me. I went to look at it when it was up for sale, but it wasn’t for me.

Great to see it’s still around!

I have options for the wheels once the bigger MG front brakes come off. They spoil the brake pedal feel too :D

Definitely-Vi wheels look great on the R3!

I found the pedal travel with the larger ZR160 brakes is longer when I installed them on the Streetwise VVC conversion I did some years back. Ideally the servo matched to the 282’s needs fitting too, I think.

Very nice John not many in white :clapping , as for the brakes I run ZR 160 set up on my 25 GTI and I think they are 100% improvement on the original .

Well, John, that is impressive!

If you need a large workshop space in the Birmingham area at the end of March, I think I may know of one :wink3

That's an option...

I know that the standard 15" 'Linford' alloys won't fit over the ZR calipers without wheel spacers so I'm considering putting them back on.
