216 GTI donor car

Post by JOHNDQ »

Finally managed to find a donor car to convert my R8 over to the Honda DOHC platform so i can race with the MG Cup. Dont know anything about the car apart from the fact it was pulled from a barn (apparently) with 3 SD1's and a 75, its been off the road for around 12 years im told and ive checked the MOT history to which there is no computerisation records so that may ring true. I get it Thrusday and im told the half leather seats are in perfect condition. I just wondered if anyone here knew of the car and if anyone needs any parts as i just need the drivetrain parts :)

Glad to see you have found something, John.
Are there any major differences in metalwork around the engine bay between K-series and D-series shells (and T-series, for that matter) or is it just a case of swapping subframes and bolting the engine and gearbox mounts into existing fixing points in the inner wings, etc?

Also, I know somebody who could be interested in the bonnet if is not damaged.

Any unique GTi parts would be worth harvesting - seats, doorcards, rear spoiler, spats, front bumper extension, anti-roll bars and alloys spring to mind

Then there's all the usual R8 parts, such as the mirrors, radio, fuel relay, lights, front wings, fuel filler neck, front and rear subframes, rear calipers and steering rack

There are a few trick aero parts to look for too - the NSR aero panel behind the rear bumper, the front bumper corner inserts and the airflow guides between the bumper aperture and the rad

You'll probably get your money back if you sell half of that lot :clapping :laughing2
I like Twin Cams.... and Single Cams...and now Turbos

No problems i will let you know if its any good :) Ive spoke to a few people who have re-shelled some of the old Dunlop cars cars using the K Series shells and they said the only non bolt on job is to drill out the spot welds on inner wings to remove the engine/gearbox mounts and reweld into my shell. Everything else should just be swapping from car to car... Hopefully :laughing2
