Experiences selling a cheap Rover

Post by GTiJohn »

I am helping sell a late 90s R3 214 for a local resident as she has no experience in doing so.

After a couple of weeks of it being listed only on 'trusted sites' with no interest I have put it up on Marketplace and there has been a surprising amount of interest!

There have been 3 main questions:

1) "Wotz your best price?" which is to be expected...
2) "Whotz your phone number?"
3) "Whotz your postcode?"

A couple have asked " Has it got a cat?" which has got me thinking - are Qs 2&3 just so they can try to find the car to cut the cat off?

Or am I just paranoid?

Do other have experience of this?

they get anything up to £150 for the cat then sell the car on again for what they paid or scrap it.

q2&3 are for people who don't like texting because they prefer to talk (older people normally) and the postcode request "could" be just as a distance guide to see if its worth the travel.
Always be broad with the postcode options or pick a pub nearby and use their postcode.

I once received a lot of online abuse after insisting on photo ID from a buyer. A friend in the village sold a car to a person who gave a false name and address. The buyer stripped the car of its valuable components before dumping the car. The police gave the seller 14 days to dispose of the car as it was still her responsibility.

I'm glad I'm not completely paranoid but it's sad you have to be so careful... :sad

Luckily nothing untoward has happened and the car sold yesterday :)
