Getting an early 220 Turbo Coupe back on the road

Post by GTiJohn »

With next year being the 30th anniversary of the launch of 'Tomcat', the Rover 200 Coupe, I've been tempted back into Coupe ownership :cool

This Turbo Coupe has been owned by the same person since 1996 but has been off the road since 2008 so there's a fair bit of work to get it back on the road.

Craig at Rover Revivals now has the car and has found 'only' several leaky engine and gearbox seals above what I saw when I went to see it.

A parts list will be appearing shortly :wink3

PS. The spoiler is with the car :)

Craig's had the car up on his ramp already and here are a few of his findings (and pics)...

There's probably as much oil outside the sump as in it

Image

The mechanicals that aren't protected by the oil are a bit crusty

Unsurprisingly the exhaust is not great

But I've managed to pick up a Magnex system for it already :thumbup1

Hi John,
what's happened to the Triumph Dolly Sprint that you acquired some time ago?

The coupe looks like a nice project too I should add! :D

That's still in Hungary and will be into next year, so I needed a 'short-term' project... then I found this :laughing2

Popped into to see Craig at RoverRevival yesterday and he's certainly making rapid progress

Good news - no rust found, cylinder bores good and turbo not needing refurb

Head should be off from crack testing shortly

and 'box to Elise-Spares for a refurb.

The previous owner brought along the rear spoiler which has starter to lift at one corner. Are these repairable and if so how?
