Veg oil?

Post by Oldroverdiesel »

Hi,
With the current sky rocketing diesel prices is anyone running their L series diesels on a blend of veg oil and diesel?
Would be particularly interested in any member running the later 45 diesel with the vp30 Bosch injection pump.

Hi,
I ran my older 400 on a light blend but that had the earlier injection pump on so just wondered if the later 45s can cope with it too.
Might give it a little drink when back on the road.

I have used it at various concentrations in 25s in the past without any adverse effects.

I do think it sinks to the bottom of the tank when the car is left standing for a while: the smell from the exhaust was often very noticeable after a period of inactivity!

Diesel was £1.629 for me this afternoon.......might have to stock up on veg oil again :wink3

Make sure you check all your local fuel stations as only a few are bandits that we’ll have to make bankrupt shortly through no use.
A short journey yesterday saw diesel as high as 189.9 but not 500yrd round the corner 162.9

45 values?

Post by Oldroverdiesel »

Thanks for your comments, have a few litres in stock so might use them up in the tank later, but only intend to do a few miles this year in the old Rover so won’t save much really.
On a separate topic what are good 45 diesels worth these days?

Cheers

Get friendly with your local Chinese take away or chip shop and persuade them to give you their old fryer oil (they'll probably be delighted to avoid paying to have it taken away). Let it stand to settle the debris, filter it and then run your car on it (or at least a blend in winter time). A mate of mine had a Rover 825 diesel running on chip shop waste - his car smelled WONDERFUL when you followed it.
