1993 414 Sli clock and coolant pipe?

Post by goldenbrown »

:S Hi there,

My rover has just developed an rather irritating problem, the clock resets itself to 1.00am every time the car is switched off and the radio has stoped working. All the fuses seem Ok anybody got any ideas??

Secondly the steel pipe which runs behind the radiator (i assume its a coolant pipe) is heavily corroded can this part be purchased or can one fabricate a replacement (i would prefer a genuine part)

Cheers
Steve

Ive found that the clock will only reset itself back to 1am when the battery has been disconnected. This is what id do and knowing me its wrong :laughing2

Id dissconect the battery and clean the terminals. Id clean the connecters too ya know the red and black things that connect to the battery :blushing

Id then but them back on nice and tight with a coating of petroleam jelly all over them.

Thats what id do and i stand by it :D

The coolant rail is a common rot point and new rails can be purchased easily enough. (remember to get the rubber O ring for the end as well.

The clock reset problems will most likely be a blown fuse. There are two for the radio, one for the power and the other for the memory wire for it (which also powers the clock). If you've fitted an aftermarket stereo wrongly then it'll blow the clock fuse. (Some aftermarket radios have the power and memory wire swapped over on their looms).

The clock on our 414 started playing up when one of the solder joints in it failed. I just removed it, dismantled it and resoldered all the joints..
