Jump start of Rover 416si 1997

Post by Viggo »

Hi all,
I've bought a Rover 416si 1997 model and unfortunately it came without a service manual. Does anyone know where to get hold of one? And does anyone know how to stop the car from sounding the alarm when I want to jump start the car with an electric jump starter? It starts hooting as soon as I connect the black cable to the body of the car (earth).
Regards
Viggo

Hi Viggo, does it do it when you jump start direct from battery terminals, and by service manual Haynes do one or do you mean handbook.Mike

Hey Mike,
I have an electric jump starter, a thing with a red and a black cable. The red cable is supposed to be connected to the + pole of the battery and the black one to earth (body of car). And yes, I'm probably talking about a hand book, as you may have noticed English is not my mother tongue, I'm Norwegian.

When the alarm sounds. Simply lock the car with the remote or the key and then unlock it again and the alarm should reset so you can then start the car.

Thanks ETV, that did the trick...!!! :-)
But now I have a new challenge, the jump starter
didn't work, it still didn't start so now I've bought
a battery charger. The manual says to disconnect
the battery according to what's written in the
handbook.. Now I still don't have the handbook, I've
ordered for it but they were out of stock..
Is there any particular way of disconnecting the battery?
I'm planning to disconnect the black one first (minus)
and then the red (plus).. OK?
