I have a 214 cab and purchased a boot spoiler to add to it (one of them with the 3rd brake light) So far I have not added it to the car cos the insurance scared me half to death. Currently pay about £345 fully comp. but the best quote I found was about £900
Anyone got any thoughts, should the insurance be so different? I mean I'm no longer a boy racer (well not on paper at least )

i wouldnt of thought a boot spoiler would make any difference to the insurance. my insurance company dont care what you do to the body as long as you dont touch the engine.
Don't tell them it's a factory Spoiler off a MK2 200 This is important (yes the coupe read below)
But when i put the coupe bumpers on my car I phone the insurance up told them said it didn't matter as the bumpers was off the same Mk car and year didn't matter that they was off a coupe

Surely if the spoiler is standard Rover & an optional extra you shouldn'y pay anymore. I've fitted a standard Rover spoiler to my 214 K plate & insurance company not bothered. It makes no difference how the car performs except more stable at high speeds. Like most we fit the spoiler for the appearance! Change insurance company or just "keep quiet"!
When applying for insurance state "standard car, no modifications" when re-applying or applying to a different Insurance Company. The spoiler is a standard extra fit, not an after market boy racer thing! My 214 GSi is standard WITH a spoiler, 15" alloys & cost of insurance is just over £75 fully comprehensive for 12 months! Admitted I am a driving instructor with 45 years "no claims bonus" but surely you can negotiate with the premium! Why not take an advanced Driving Test with the "Institute of Advanced Motorists"? This will bring you're insurance down a lot! Good luck, David
