The interior light fails to operate when the off-side door opens. The light in the boot also fails to work. Is this just coincidence, or are they linked? Any solutions gratefully received.
Is there a fuse for the interior lights? If so then check this. If it is blown check the wiring in the tailgate hinge area as wires sometimes break in this area causing short circuits and so blowing the fuse.
My Rover 200 Handbook (not a specific Handbook for the Coupe) does not list a location for the interior light/boot fuse. I agree totally with your logic, but can you/anyone tell me where/which fuse(s) are relevant. Thanks.
I think the interior lights are controlled through the MFU (multi function unit) but I'm not sure about the boot light. I'm not very up on the electrics yet (all that will change fitting an alarm at the weekend hopefully).
Regarding the interior light the first thing you want to do is take the door switch off (its the black plastic thing on the lower part of the door pillar), pop it open & clean the connections. Watch you don't lose the wire into the door pillar though. They are notorious for clogging up with rubbish. Also make sure the screw holding the switch on is making a good connection to the bodywork as this makes the circuit.
First thing i'd do with the boot light is check the bulb.
